Belgravia

Belgravia is a prestigious district in Central London, known for its grand terraces and elegant squares. The area was originally known as the "Five Fields" during the Tudor period and was notorious for highwaymen and robberies.

The transformation of Belgravia began in the early 19th century when Richard Grosvenor, the 2nd Marquess of Westminster, commissioned the renowned builder Thomas Cubitt to develop the area. Cubitt's vision and expertise led to the creation of Belgrave Square and Eaton Square, which became the focal points of the district.

Cubitt's development was remarkable for its time, incorporating modern amenities such as granite curbs, iron lampposts, and advanced sanitation systems. The area quickly became a desirable location for the wealthy, attracting some of the most powerful aristocrats and richest commoners in England.

Today, much of Belgravia remains part of the Grosvenor Estate, owned by the Duke of Westminster's family property company. The district is predominantly residential, characterized by its beautiful architecture and proximity to landmarks like Buckingham Palace and Hyde Park.
